Fiddlers ReStrung Hometown Spring Concert Announced

Saline, MI - Fiddlers ReStrung presents their Annual Hometown Spring Concert on Saturday, March 1st, at Saline Middle School. Appearing with Fiddlers ReStrung is the Grant Gordy Quartet from Denver, Colorado. The Grant Gordy Quartet features Gordy on guitar, Adam Galblum on fiddle, Ian Hutchison on bass, and Dominick Leslie on mandolin. The group plays "new acoustic music" or progressive stringband music, and performs mostly original tunes written by Gordy.

Grant Gordy has been playing the guitar for ten years, and also sings and plays mandolin and several other instruments. His styles range from bluegrass to western swing to folk rock to jazz. He has an interest in fusing seemingly disparate genres in his writing and performance and is always looking for new musical challenges. Gordy has played onstage with the David Grisman Quintet, and also with Chris Thile. Gordy also performed at the Edgar Meyer Young Artists Concert at Carnegie Hall, with Edgar Meyer, Mike Marshall, Jeremy Kittel and other musical talents.

Adam Galblum has been playing Jazz and Americana on the fiddle for many years. He has been recognized and brought to the stage by David Grisman, Darol Anger, and Hot Buttered Rum. His fiddle playing was formed by a lifetime of music-making, from the orchestral stage in Europe, to a Showcase at the International Bluegrass Musicians Association. He currently gigs and teaches in the Colorado front range area, and is a rising figure in the Jazz and Stringband communities. His most recent studio recording is with Jayme Stone, on his record, "The Utmost".

Ian Hutchison is well versed in all major musical styles, including rock, salsa, country, funk, jazz, Brazilian, bluegrass, and classical. Ian has performed with Andy Stein, the fiddler from NPR’s A Prairie Home Companion. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music with a bachelor’s degree in jazz performance. He won several distinctions, including jazz student of the year and outstanding senior jazz recital. He recently returned from a tour of Argentina with the Denver Young Artist’s Orchestra.

Dominick Leslie’s love of music was sparked at age 3, with his dad’s bluegrass band. At 15, he recorded his first solo CD “Signs of Courage” which received rave reviews from Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine. He placed first in the 2004 Rockygrass Mandolin Contest at age 14 becoming the youngest contestant ever to win, and he was a showcase artist at the 2006 IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Awards) in Nashville. Now 17, Dominick is a senior at Evergreen High School where he has achieved high academic success in the honors program.

Opening the program will be Saline’s 7th and 8th grade Fiddle Clubs, some of whom are the newest members of Fiddlers ReStrung this next season. Saline Area Schools sponsors and supports Fiddlers ReStrung, a talented group of high school students who play and dance to traditional folk, Celtic and bluegrass music. The Fiddlers ReStrung mission is to preserve and perform American fiddle music. The concert series not only fulfills this goal, but also exposes students and community to a wide variety of talented professional musicians.

The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Saline Middle School, 7190 Maple Road, Saline, Michigan. Reserved seating tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. To purchase tickets in advance, please call (734)429-7210. After February 10, tickets may also be purchased in-person at the Saline Community Education Office, 200 N. Ann Arbor Street, Saline.
