Are You Ready for Some Hoedown?

Fiddlers ReStrung To Perform at Premier Country Music Event

Saline, MI - Billed as the "World's Largest Free Country Music Concert," the 2008 Downtown Hoedown in Detroit will feature a true down home Saline flavor this year. Appearing alongside some of the biggest names in Country Music, Fiddlers ReStrung has been invited to perform on the opening day of this three-day music festival at Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit.


Fiddlers ReStrung Group photoThis year marks the 26th anniversary of the Downtown Hoedown, sponsored by Detroit radio station 99.5 WYCD. The event will be held in Hart Plaza from May 9-11th and is expected to draw a crowd of 800,000. The Hoedown is regarded by the Country Music Industry as a premier showcase opportunity for new and established artists. Since its inception in 1983, the Downtown Hoedown has featured artists including Hank Williams, Jr., Tanya Tucker, Mel Tillis, Reba McIntire, Lee Greenwood, Toby Keith, the Dixie Chicks, LeAnn Rimes and Gretchen Wilson.

Over 30 acts will take the stage this year; featuring local artists alongside some of country music's brightest stars. This year's headliners include Jewel, Trisha Yearwood, Lonestar, Gretchen Wilson and Josh Gracin of "American Idol" fame. Over the years, the Downtown Hoedown has helped launch the careers of music artists like Rascal Flatts, Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire and Montgomery Gentry.

Fiddlers ReStrung will perform on Friday, May 9th at 2:00 pm. Sponsored and supported by Saline Area Schools, Fiddlers ReStrung is made up entirely of Saline High School students. For almost 15 years, Saline Area Schools has proudly produced on of the most renowned fiddling ensembles ever created. Founded by string educator and composer Bob Phillips, these high school students perform over 80 shows a year in venues ranging from community service to high profile and private events. The group is dedicated to preserving fiddle music, serving the community and encouraging the positive qualities of young adults.
