Mike Block String Camp Presents

Mike Block Faculty Concert

August 8, 2012, Ewing Auditorium, Saline High School 8PM

 Everyone is invited!

The inaugural Mike Block String Camp invites all to attend its Faculty Concert on Wednesday, August 8th, 2012 at 8:00 pm. The concert will be at the Ewing Performing Arts Center at Saline High School at 1300 Campus Parkway in Saline, Michigan. Tickets are all general admission and available at the door for $20 with $15 for students and seniors.

This String Camp builds from the success of Mike Block’s oversold Vero Beach, Florida camp, and provides a local vibe that is particular to the historic culture of fiddling in Saline. The Camp’s focus for developing improvisational skills is unique to the musical world and a logical fit for the Saline area.

Heading this group is the incomparable cellist Mike Block, whose talents have been recognized and nurtured by Yo-Yo Ma, Mark O’Connor, and Darol Anger. Mike is based in New York City and performs with The Triborough Trio and The Mike Block Band. Mike is in demand as a musical director, clinician, and instructor.

The group he has assembled for us tonight is simply a “who’s who” list of string performers, a group who will continue to set musical standards for decades to come.

Jeremy Kittel – Violin/Viola – Known for not only his prior work with Grammy-winning Turtle Island String Quartet, Jeremy is a virtuoso Jazz improviser and also a champion folk fiddler. His most recent album, Chasing Sparks, features guests Mike Marshall and Edgar Meyer, and he has recently graced the cover of Strings Magazine.

Hanneke Cassel – Violin -- U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion, and a leading creative voice in Celtic music, The Boston Globe described her as "Exuberant and rhythmic, somehow both wild and innocent."

Kimber Ludiker – Violin -- Two-time Grand National Fiddle Champion (2009 and 2010), Kimber is a member of the greatest all-girl Bluegrass band ever created, Della Mae, which is rising fast and playing every major festival in the country.

Clay Ross – Guitarist, vocalist, and composer who is a U.S. Jazz Ambassador – he draws on American and Brazilian styles in a way that Jazz Times Magazine calls "Weird and Wonderful... Unorthodox and Delightful."
